We then partake in a shared writing lesson where our focus is character, setting and problem. We brainstorm ideas pertaining to how Habibi ended up playing in the sand and writing his name (maybe he used the word wall to help him?). Thursday's we then write the story together to hang in the interactive chart area for later reading during center time.
Students began to develop the story as to his actions leading up to the sand incident. One student even remarked that the footprints might not be his because Habibi was wearing socks!
